Rolling

Rolling is the first movement that enables the baby to get around.

In rolling the spine moves in all directions: it bends, arches, side-bends and rotates.

After being in the womb where mostly the flexors worked – because otherwise we wouldn’t have fitted in there – the extensors come into play. We learn to deal with gravity.

The relationship between the head and the pelvis evolves.

The hand-eye-coordination as well as the vision develops. And a very important aspect of rolling is the developing and strengthening of balance.

Rolling is essential for reaching the following milestones like tummy crawling and crawling. Read the next blog to find out more about the nect milestone.
